The figure does not mean Brazil has 6.89 million employed software engineers, developers seeking work, full-time professionals, or people available to a foreign buyer. GitHub’s definition and platform coverage differ from labor-market statistics.
Brasscom provides narrower employment and occupation views. Its ICT macrosector total combines CLT employees, individual microentrepreneurs, and informal workers. The formal ICT sector count uses CLT employees. The 494,427 IT-professional figure is an occupational cut within that sector, and the 290,591 systems-development figure is narrower again.
These measures answer different questions:
use GitHub to describe platform-community scale;
use the ICT macrosector for broad economic and labor context;
use formal ICT employment for sector scale;
use the occupation cuts for more specific formal-worker context; and
ask a vendor or recruiter for actual named-role capacity when you hire developers in Brazil.
No current traceable total for annual Computing and ICT graduates was isolated from the reviewed INEP 2024 material. Leave a Brazil graduate-pipeline number unpublished until the official table and definition are documented.

Software market and export statistics
The report valued the broader ICT macrosector at R$919.7 billion in 2025, up 15.0% and equal to 7.2% of GDP under its definition. Total ICT exports reached R$62.0 billion, up 20.8%. Within that total, software and services exports reached R$41.6 billion, up 24.7%, and were twice the value of hardware exports under the report’s categories.
For outsourcing research, the software and services export figure is the more direct external-market signal. Keep that R$41.6 billion category separate from total ICT exports of R$62.0 billion and the R$919.7 billion macrosector value, both of which include activity beyond software outsourcing.
Software developer compensation statistics
GSC’s Brazil developer compensation analysis uses public Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025 microdata for respondents mapped to full-stack, back-end, front-end, and desktop or enterprise application roles. Annual USD compensation was strictly above $5,000 and below $500,000.

Lead with the median because the upper tail pulls the mean higher. The survey is self-selected, reports annual compensation rather than contractual base salary, and can include bonuses and benefits.

Reported work experience is not an employer-assigned seniority level. The published values remain $43,234 for 11 to 15 years and $41,868 for 16+ years.
Programming-language compensation cuts
Survey respondents could select more than one language, so the groups overlap. The medians are descriptive and noncausal.
The higher observed Go and Bash/Shell medians can reflect role, experience, employer, infrastructure responsibility, and respondent mix. Go has the highest median shown, $42,888, with 57 respondents and overlapping language groups.
Software provider rates and supply
The provider findings describe reviewed profiles, not Brazil’s entire provider market. GSC first-party analysis supports three public findings within that scope:
custom software is nearly universal in the reviewed Brazil provider sample, with web and mobile development the most visible supporting services;
among reviewed profiles that publish an hourly rate band, the median band midpoint is approximately $75 per hour; and
the median founding year in the reviewed sample is 2012.
The rate-band midpoint describes profile positioning. Actual software outsourcing rates require a role-level quote with scope, hours, currency, and inclusions. Do not compare them directly with the $30,600 survey median because the populations and units differ, and a provider price may also include delivery management, overhead, leave, bench risk, and margin.
The provider findings do not establish a national company count or a cross-market ranking. Use them only as characteristics of the reviewed Brazil sample and its rate-publishing subset.
Infrastructure and working overlap
Brazil has multiple legal time zones. Most major South and Southeast software hubs operate at UTC−3. Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rondônia, Roraima, and part of Amazonas use UTC−4. Acre and western Amazonas use UTC−5.

Stack Overflow fielded the survey from May 29 through June 23, 2025, recruited respondents primarily through its own channels, and converted reported salaries to USD using June 25, 2025 exchange rates. Survey participation is self-selected, categories can overlap, USD values can reflect currency movement, and the results are not a workforce census.
Provider findings are GSC first-party analyses. They describe only the reviewed sample and its rate-publishing subset, not every Brazilian software company.
